Il Danielista 1
By: Michele | September 25th, 2008Genova 3 Roma 1
Horrible, horrible, horrible game.

I don’t know what’s wrong with the team.
A lack of Totti?
Time to gel?
Was Mancini secretly motivating the players at half time?
Is it the team missing Juan, Cassetti, Baptista, Pizarro?
Combined with Mexes and Aquilani on the bench?
The ref who:
(a). disallowed a legit Panucci goal?
(b). did not give a penalty for a foul on Menez?
(c). a non existent corner which resulted in a Genoa goal?
(d). a questionable red card for the prince of Rome?
Excuses aside last years AS Roma would have risen against to the challenge and won.
So how did Daniele do?
8
DDR did great as usual. I don’t think we would have lost had he stayed on the pitch.
It’s difficult to overstate Daniele’s contribution to the team.
Be it in defence or in attack he is key as evidenced by his goal.

Good goal, went in for a header, goal couldn’t hold it and Daniele went in for the kill.
Cue beautiful Daniele celebration. Cue Spaletti breathing a sigh of relief…
I have decided not to take off marks for his red card as it was, in my opinion, undeserved.
The challenge was fair. Don’t want to say anything else about it.
Less Reputable Ratings:

Could only get my hands on the Gazzetta today:
DDR: 6
Hovers between a 4 and an 8 for his 4 for both his goal and dismissal.
Roma would not have lost had he stayed on.
Rest of the team according to La Gazzetta:
Doni-6
His reflexes were far from cat-like when up against Sculli but not at fault for the score line.
(Please bring back Philou and Juan).
Cichino-6
Better and better as the game went on.
(I like him, bombs up and down, doesn’t give up, wants to be in the first team, when Mexes and Juan are fit I see no reason he shouldn’t start. What he lacks in defence he more than makes up for in attack)
Loria-5
Promising start, crumbled in the second half.
(Philouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. What really hurts is that Ferrari got a 5.5)
Panucci-5.5
One costly moment of indecisiveness but a legit goal disallowed.
(Great for his age…)
Riise-5
Forgot about Sculli on the first goal. Unconvincing performance.
(Needs time, I agree with Cris that he shouldn’t be starting yet but I like the hard work he puts in)
DDR-6
Taddei-6
One shot was of notice (football manager talk), lots of good work.
(Not back to his best but looking better)
sub-Okaka NR
Perrotta-6
Can tell he’s just back into the stating line up but useful contribution.
(Worked hard, looked like he didn’t know where he was playing at times…)
sub-Aquilani NR
Brighi-5.5
Never incisive but good cover.
(A day in the life of Matteo)
Menez-6 Roma’s MOTM
Got better as the game went on. Assist for Panucci and earned a penalty. Pity the ref was a cock/ didn’t agree.
(Promising display from the next Zidane no.343262)
sub-Montella NR
Vucinic-5
Lots of movement but failed to take advantage of the holes in Genoa’s defence.
(Failed to score when up against Ferarri and Criscito… Not good)
Spalletti-6
Oddly enough Roma seems to be getting better (except in defence).
Probably wouldn’t have lost but for the refereeing.
Highlights
If you want them…..
Interviews
None, still not talking to the press. Lot of criticism from Rosella and Spalletti about the ref…
On another note I’m off to Rome to see Roma-Atalanta and it looks like I won’t be seeing Totti or Daniele on the pitch which sucks but every time I’ve been to the Olympico Roma has won so with that in mind,
