You knew it was coming…

By: Michele | August 28th, 2008

With Totti and Aquilani both represented it was about time the third pillar of Rome got his own blog.
Starting now myself and Jake will be keeping you up to date with everything De Rossi related.

First of all a quick introduction.
I am half Irish half Italian and I grew up supporting Baggio following him from club to club. When ‘il divino codino’ retired I looked to Totti only to fall in love with AS Roma.
This is my first blog and it will be extremely biased and with good reason; DDR is quite simply the best midfielder in the world.

He combines power, skill and vision and has been lovingly referred to as Gatusso in Armani. This comparison makes sense when you watch pretty much any Roma game where DDR is often all over the pitch performing last minute tackles and generally making up for the mistakes of others (I’m thinking of a certain thumb sized Peruvian…).

De Rossi is however more than a Gatusso 2.0, sure he can defend but he can also attack. This defensive midfielder may not be on the same level as Pirlo when it comes to unleashing millimeter perfect passes from one end of the pitch to the other but he’s only 25 and can only get better.
Not to mention his long distance heavy artillery bomb blasts…

Let’s not forget he is also the man who destroyed France’s hopes at the recent Euro which remains the most memorable moment (for me anyway) of Italy’s lackluster performance.

On top of all of this he is one of the few players who is loyal to his club.
For the past two years he has been linked to Real Madrid and for the past two years he has stressed that his contract renewal was a mere formality.
Daniele bleeds red and yellow.

Is there anything negative to say about Capitano Futuro?
Well he does have a mean right elbow…

As well as a tendency to always step up to take penalties even when it seems clear he’s not really feeling up to it…

but he apologized to McBride (who went on to call him ‘a classy guy’) and without him there is little doubt in my mind Roma would not have gotten through Real Madrid so all is forgiven.

Yup, Alberto De Rossi’s testicles sure knew what they were doing when they produced this stallion.

I’m looking forwards to keeping you all up to date on the life of our favorite vice-captain and please feel free to leave any comments and suggestions.

    Il Capitano Futuro
    Gotta love him.

But as much as it hurts me to say this Michele, he is not vice-captain. That duty falls to Panucci I’m afraid. Though he his the Captain of the Future when Totti and Panucci hang up the boots.

As much as I like Pizarro defending is not his strong point; I have seen him lose the ball many times attempting to dribble out of trouble and more often then not DDR has to go get it…
asem with Panucci 35 years old I think he will see less and less playing time letting DDR practically inherit vice captain.
Can’t wait to see Menez in action even though we could have done with real striker.

If there’s a player I’d had wanted to write about after Totti, it’s DDR ;-) . At the end of 06-07 season he was a good player. At the end of 07-08 season he is a truly world-class player and truly deserves the Italian Footballer of the Year title in the Oscar del Calcio awards.

looking forward to reading your work, Michelle. De Rossi is a monster and I enjoy watching him play. For personal reasons, I hope he has a lackluster first match this season. DDR is a monster. He needs to get the PK’s straight and continue being a force in distributing the ball in order to really fulfill his promise.
